  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Ahh, that soon-to-be-(if-not-already)-obsolete stalwart, the Digital Compact Disc.

PLEASE NOTE that the CD version of Days of Yore contains alternate artwork, rather than any minified versions of the deluxe vinyl design or packaging (which simply wouldn't work for a number of more-or-less obvious reasons). It started out as a mere inkjet-printed cardstock pouch, the artwork intentionally minimal, then gradually returned to a level of design insanity commensurate with the vinyl version. So, as of now (summer 2023), in addition to the pouch, there is a silver envelope and two graphic lyric sheets (for the first two songs, cause each sheet took 3+ weeks of work to make, and that's as far as I've gone with those).

If you'd like an additional, hard plastic layer of protection for the compact disc, check our main merch page for the jewel case add-on, which includes its own cut-to-fit inserts. In that case, you can use the silver envelope for the lyric sheets, since neither the envelope nor the lyric sheets are likely to fit into a traditional plastic jewel case.

In closing (as if we haven't already blown well past the maximum appropriate length for a product description blurb), here's an extensive note about the particular CD-R's that I prefer to use:

When I burn, I burn ONLY with Taiyo-Yuden CD-R media, which, unlike most commercially-produced blank CD-Rs, sandwiches the sensitive, reflective silver layer of the disc between two protective layers of clear plastic. Perhaps you've never had the problem I began to notice all too frequently with my mass-produced CD purchases: if I happened to scrape off any of the label printed on the top of the disc, I could see that "hole" from the bottom! That would cause playback errors when the laser failed to reflect, and enough holes could prevent a disc from playing at all. This would happen because large-run CD's are produced via the cheapest method possible, with the reflective silver layer painted on top of the disc, "protected" only by whatever artwork was printed on top of that, because if you can depend on major record labels for one thing, that thing would be cutting every possible corner to save cash, even at the detriment of the very product they ostensibly exist in order to distribute.

So, just saying, with these CD-R's, you won't ever have the scrapey-no-playey problem (that you probably just learned existed). These CD's are built to frikkin' last.

about

A spiritual rebuttal to Liz Phair's "Help Me Mary"

lyrics

Hold the Train

so my dog has fleas
i don't mean to be such a tease
but i can't say what i mean
without parentheses

we all thought you were someone else's friend
and called for you to stand at either end
i took one step back to fit you in
i've been walking backwards ever since

i have banged my head
suffice it to say that i've bled
the restroom was too far
so i used a police car

the five of us were fifty short of bail
so i spent my graduation day in jail
i thumbed the page and slit my skin
and all the world came pouring in

cordless telephone
my greeting is only a groan
you say you've changed this time
but you just changed your mind

i don't care so much for rock and roll
since it gave my friend a bloody nose
well actually it was me

i'm asking will you marry me please
i've got to get some use out of my knees
you can say that your biology's to blame
and pay the neighbors' kids to hold your train
